5 April 1862 — Exeter House, Roehampton
Saturday. 5th [April 1862]. Finished writing the P.T. wrote the M. & several other letters—was going for drive with Con: to Spring Lodge at 2½ but Maria arrived and we put off until 4½. She went with Con: to take measurement of rooms at Ash: Cott:– It rained a little when we set out but ceased before we arrived– Saw baby and had some tea. We did not stay more than ½ hour. Con: drove me back. Met Mr & Mrs Fred. Corrance in Richd town. I had not seen her since Maria’s wedding and think her very much altered—never saw him before– Read Milton with Flamanck– Ecca went to town & came back to dinner by the same train as Schr. He heard from the M. that she was doing well—sees a doctor twice a day. Worked & played backgammon with Ecca—she beat me. Schr left at 10¼ to bed at 10½–
