17 October 1862 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Friday. 17th [October 1862]. Went up early in morng to see Alice before she left. She left by nine A.M. train—it was raining dreadfully and blowing great guns. There was a lull in the morng & it became quite fine. Con: & Mer: tried a little photography but it would not do so they all went and played rackets whilst I printed with the M. Went to the school at 2 oclock and superintended flannel petticoats till 3½. Called at Gerard and Mrs Pynes. Came home and ordered tea. I then went up to the garden for some grapes for Mrs Pyne & Gerard. Had tea. After dinner went and had a long talk with Luff in his room.
