8 January 1863 — Uffington House, nr. Stamford, Lincolnshire | |
Thursday. 8th [January 1863]. We played croquet in the morng and it was very cold! Indeed so that after lunch I gave up my mallet and walked up & down. In eveng we had 2 men to play & we danced but it was not a very spirited affair and after some supper we went away. Evy, Mary, Gracie and Bertrand came over for the day. We had a game of racquets in the music room & walked up & down on the terrace in aftern. | |
