6 April 1863 — Exeter House, Roehampton
Monday. 6th [April 1863]. Easter Monday. Blan. Con. Mr Schr & I went to Mary Unwins wedding, Con: being one of the Bridesmaids– I there met one or 2 people I knew and after the ceremony wh was performed at St James’s Piccadilly by the Bp of Oxford we adjourned to a breakfast at Thomas’s Hotel, Berkeley Square. The breakfast was not till after one oclock & I was taken in by an old Mr Gower. The Bishop made a speech & proposed the health of the Bride & Bgroom & he of course returned thanks but he managed to make a great bungle of it over “me & my wife” wh he repeated 4 or 5 times in the same sentence. We went after to Jermyn St where we took leave of Blanche & Temmie who went down to Ampthill and then we went to the Aldersons. We found nobody at home but nevertheless stayed there while Schr went shopping. Soon Poney came home, so lending me another bonnet she took me with her to fetch Mrs Cock’s little boy & went in a hansom to Abbey Lodge to the Earnest de Bunsen’s where there was a childrens party to find Easter eggs like is done abroad. We had tea with them & sat a little in the garden wh is wonderfully large for London where people can walk without being seen from the road & where they keep a cow & fowls. We did not stay there long as it began to rain & we hastened home. We had not got to Portland Place 2 minutes before Mr Schr called for us & taking leave of Lady A. & Bloss wh had come in by this time we returned to Roehampton–
