15 April 1872 — Madrid | |
Monday. 15th [April 1872]. Copied for Henry in morning & lesson of Esq: A very hot day & at 3 I went off to Mme Vernouillet’s to fetch her to go to Vista Allegre & to join the Dss de la Torre & Mme Dragonetti. At Mme V’s door I found a message for me saying Mme D. was ill & our trip given up. I went in & told Mme V.—saw her father Admiral Marquis de Montaignac & carried her back to my house where we had tea. Eliz & Mme Ettling joined us & we went out driving at 5½, drove in Fuente. The heat excessive. The Hunts dined & also Mr Ashburnham—a farewell dinner—as he leaves for good on Wedy. We had a great many people in the evening & Beck & Mirecki & the Hunts sang & played. | |
