20 April 1872 — Madrid
Saturday. 20th April [1872]. It was so cold & I felt disinclined to work so I ordered the carriage & drove to see Elizabeth & stayed an hour with her– I came back soon after 12– I did not go out again. The Koudriaffskys called & I showed her my lace. Ff: was also here– Eliz also came & later Emilia & Miss Wright & Mrs Hare. Everybody is talking of a Carlist rising which is to take place tomorrow. D. Carlos has written to forbid the Carlist members to take their seats in the Cortès on 24th wh day it opens. At 2 we had our church practise. Beck called to say he had cleared £30 by his concert–
