21 September 1872 — Paris
Saturday. 21st [September 1872]. Henry had a letter from Lady Somers talking of coming to Spain & saying they were to be in Paris & would leave last Wednesday so we went to the hotel Westminster on the chance of still finding them here. We found them at the hotel de Londres—at breakfast & sat with them a long time talking over plans as they propose to come to Madrid & we urged them to accompany us. We then called on the Bauers who are staying in P. for a few days & then went back to lunch. Met the brothers De Gex in the street & they talk of coming to Spain; we asked them to come to lunch wh they did. At 2 Lady Somers came to fetch Henry & took him out & I went to shop at the Louvre with Hill & only got back at 5. It was very showery. We went to Champeaux where we dined & then went to the Circus. We saw English clowns & also wonderful performance on the trapeze by a little girl of abt 10 years old & 2 men—it was very trying to behold.
