Sunday. 3rd [November 1872]. I had first Sunday class consisting of Hamiltons, Arthur Aikin & young Beales & then at 11½ usual service. I did not go out not being very well & kept to sofa all day. Mrs & Miss Buch, Mr & Mrs Maddox (she a daughter of Ld Napier of Magdala), Mr Ff & Goschen & Genl Adie dined. The Genl has just come back from the Crimea to examine British burial grounds for the Govt. He brought some charming sketches with him–
