11 February 1875 — Madrid | |
Thursday. 11th February [1875]. I went to breakfast with Dss de la Torre & told her the story the mask had told me—at wh she was as disgusted as I. For fun she wrote a note to Henry saying “Cher ami Enid me dait 5 francs pour son dejeuner d’anjourd bien”! She brought me home in her carriage. Esquivel came for my lesson. I copied for Henry. Mme San Carlos called & just before dinner came Maffei & Franchetti to ask Henry’s advice abt buying a curious dagger seeming very old—Hy thought it suspicious. Mr Gosling dined with us & we had our usual music in the eveng & a good many people. | |
