25 August 1875 — Bere Cottage, Bere Regis, Dorset
Wednesday. 25th [August 1875]. Monty drove us to Wool station at 8 A.M. in a waggonette & we went all together by the same train. Monty went on to Ringwood to fish & we got out at Wimborne to go & spend a few hours at Canford. The carriage met us. We met luff at the church gate & got out & went to see the restorations of the chancel that Ivor is having done. There are some very curious arches wh have been uncovered & it is a great improvement tho’ I cannot help regretting the old high square pew of my childhood. We went into the House & round the garden & then to Luff’s farm where he & Mrs L. gave us luncheon. Soon after we went off to catch the train again & went up to London & down to Blackheath & arrived there for 7 o’cl dinner. I was so tired & knocked up I had to go straight to bed.
