17 November 1875 — Madrid
Wednesday. 17th November [1875]. Painted in the morng. In the afternoon went out to see Lady Walsham & sat with her some time. When I got home I found the Dss de la Torre having tea with Henry. She was very angry with the Ruiz & Govt—said that Serrano had left Madrid in order not to be present at the Court on Friday wh is to be held on the Ex Queen’s saints day. He had asked what his place at Ct wd be & had recd a very insolent answer saying “his place wd be amongst the other Capt Genls” wh did not suit the Ex Regent! The Riaños dined with us & also Mr & Mrs Brooks. She is the daughter of Sir J. Drummond Hay & he is cousin of Amy Lady Huntly.
