3 May 1876 — Madrid
Wednesday. 3rd [May 1876]. Cut out flowers for my work. At 2.15 Henry & I went to the Museum & I made sketches from some of the pictures—de Heem—Brueghel &c of glasses that we may have them copied at Venice this season. Ct Hatzfeldt called—also Mmes Chacon & Isasi & we gave them tea. After dinner we went to the Bauers. HRH has given Bauer a nice diamond & ruby ring. He also gave our friend Mr Rutledge who drove the train from Cordova here & also to the Portuguese frontier a gold pencil case.
