26 April 1877 — Constantinople | |
Thursday. 26th [April 1877]. At last I was better & made up my mind to go out driving. I went in the Victoria & had a cavass before the carriage to clear the way. I went to fetch Mrs Baring and we went to pay some visits—the streets are narrow & steep & some we could not go down in the carriage. We did not find many at home. After the visits we took a short drive round by the Sultan’s palace on the Bosphorus & up the hill & round home. The Kemballs, Fawcetts, Capt. Drummond of the “Rapid”, Capt. Malloy, the F. Chargé & Mr Jocelyn dined. In the eveng I recd the Corps Diplomatique we had a good many come & abt 6 ladies– | |
