9 May 1877 — Constantinople
Wednesday. 9th [May 1877]. Mrs Sandison & Mrs Baring came at 11 & we went off to the Bedesten where the old things are to be got. I bought 10 silver zarfs with some old cups. Mrs Baring bought an inlaid table & bargained for a white embroidered shawl for 3 T. lire. We did not get back to lunch till after 2. The weather was very hot & heavy, & a storm threatened. I had a headache so as Henry dined out with the Persian Minister I went early to my room.
