20 October 1877 — Therapia
Saturday. 20th October [1877]. Cut out & worked. Parnis came to work. Capt. Stopford came over & made over the black boy Jerry alias “James Vulture” to us with his papers & money £2.16. He had been taken from a slave dhow by H.M.S. Vulture 2 years ago & Capt Stopford was anxious to get him a home so I said I would take him. His age is uncertain so the Capt “made him 9 last new Year’s day”– He is a native of Madagascar. Mr Golding came to stay.
