30 May 1878 — Therapia | |
Thursday. 30th [May 1878]. At 5.30 A.M. we were woke up by a note from the Sultan for Henry begging him & me to go & save him as his life was threatened. Henry wrote & begged him to be calm & to send Saïd or Dr Mavrogeni to talk it over– It is evident the poor man is off his head. Copied for Henry. Very hot day. Mrs A. Hanson came to call just as we had done luncheon. At 3 Henry & I went off to see Ahmet Vefyk P. in the steam cutter. Found him better but still complaining. He got better after a time & at last went out into his garden with us for the 1st time since his illness. On the way down to our boat we met the Fourniers going up to see him. When we got home we found Dr Mavrogeni & his daughter had been to call & would come back. They came abt 6.30 & as it was late we asked them to stop & dine the Dr said he must return to H.M. at Yildiz but he left his daughter & after dinner we sent her to her aunt Mme Calliardy’s. Mr Cartwright & Capt. Stopford dined & Major de Winton. | |
