3 August 1878 — Therapia
Saturday. 3rd [August 1878]. Henry gave me & Aimée each a long thing to copy which took us all the morning to do. I was interrupted by my Turkish lesson of Habit Eff: Adl Hornby arrived to lunch and also Dr Dickson. I returned to my copying after lunch till abt 4. Henry & the 2 Admirals drove off at 5 to dine with the Sultan at Yildiz & also Mr Mallet & Genl Dickson. I went off to call on Mme Fournier, did not find her– Returned & played tennis. Mme Fournier joined us there. I & the d’Ehrenhoff girls dined with the secretaries. After dinner M. d’Ehrenhoff & Mr Chermside came & we had a musical evening everybody playing or singing. Henry wore his Bath today for the first time. We had great trouble in making him put it on—the Adls at last persuaded him & told him wh side the ribbon shd be worn. Henry said he hated it & that we were like children fond of gewgaws. Mr Ashburnham returned fm England today.
