5 August 1878 — Therapia
Monday. 5th [August 1878]. Henry went to Safvet in the steam launch. I went on with Aimée’s portrait & practised a little. Henry returned just as we were finishing luncheon. I copied out 2 of Charles Dickens’ letters to Henry for him to send to Miss Dickens who wants to publish her father’s correspondence. When I had finished & took it to Henry found Zichy with him. He was to have dined with us but he was in a fuss & said he must rush back to town & telegraph. Henry tells me that there is a deal of hard fighting in Bosnia where they are resisting by force the occupation of the Austrians. Walked in the garden with Henry & Ida. Could not play tennis as having poured all the morning the ground was wet. We went to see the new broods of chickens & pigeons & then up to the top of the garden & returned to tea. Learnt my Turkish lesson, Mr Mallet dined with us. Very few people came in the eveng on acct of the uncertain weather. Bed at 12.
