3 February 1879 — Constantinople
Monday. 3rd February [1879]. May & I spent the morning in cutting out the flowers for some appliqué work we are going to do for the church. We arranged the rooms for the ball we were to have in the evening. Mme Dolez came to take leave of me. She leaves for good on Wednesday. We dined early on acct of the dance. I wore a dark blue velvet with the grand cord on of the Chefakat. We had a large number of people come—amongst them the Turkish Ministers & altogether abt 200 people. Henry went to bed at 12 when the supper room opened. The dancing was in the Red drawing room– I was rather put out at every other person asking me why I did not open the ball room—& I went to bed at 2 quite cross. The dance was a success & especially the supper.
