28 December 1879 — Constantinople
Sunday. 28th [December 1879]. Alice returned from Candilli with Mrs A. Hanson by church time. It was very cold & there were constant showers of snow. Henry kept his bed all day in order to try & get rid of his cold. I did not leave him. Munir B. sent to say the Sultan wished to see Henry tomorrow. I wrote & said he was laid up but wd come if he were better at wh I recd a very polite note from Munir Bey saying H.M. regretted to hear of it and would not wish Henry to go to the Palace till he was quite well. The Embassy dined here as usual & Mr St John took Henry’s place.
