3 January 1880 — Constantinople
Saturday. 3rd January [1880]. After breakfast it was so fine that I went out in the garden with Henry & talked to Mr Sartoris & Carrie—settled with Mr Sartoris where the piano was to be placed in the red drawing room. Alice went to her classes. Mrs A Hanson came & we cut out jackets together. Henry went out riding to Kheredine Pasha’s to pay him a visit. Alice went with me, she walking, I in the chair to the Memorial church school room where a school tea was to be given to the English school children. The Hansons were there—the children began by playing games & then had their tea. I made the acquaintance of Mr Bagden the Chaplain to the Sailors water side mission & promised to see if I cd help him. Mme Fernandez, Mr St John called. We dined at 7.30 & had our musical eveng. Mme Livadari sang & she brought a Mr Marques to play the violin and we tried a good many things.
