28 January 1880 — Constantinople
Wednesday. 28th [January 1880]. Copied for the messenger & only got up after in time for my painting lesson. We had a great fuss because Mr Thompson had begun to knock a hole in the wall of our china closet without asking permission & Giovanni was in a fury & I & Mr St John were in constant communication about it. Walked in the garden in the afternoon with Alice & Henry. Only Mr Fawcett called to say his wife wd be delighted to represent me at the Armenian Ball tomorrow. Dined alone & early to bed.
