6 February 1880 — Constantinople
Friday. 6th. February [1880]. I had a painting lesson of Mr Walker & went on with Alices portrait. Henry & Alice went out riding. The Minister of Police Hafiz P. called on Henry for the first time since the Koelle affair. I went out walking in the garden and met old Mrs Washington there & took a turn with her. Mrs W. Hanson came to see me also Mme Kosjek, Mrs Schiessl Perstorff & P Karadja– We had a dinner party wh was rather a failure as Miss Zarifi, Mme Condouriotis & Mrs W. Hanson disappointed us—we had Condouriotis, Mangellas, Zarifi, Collobiano & Van der Bosch– We had invited the Persian Ambr & his secy but after waiting some time in vain we went in to dinner & then discovered that I had made a mistake in the date & that I had asked him for the 9th & today is the 6th. The Mantillas came in & played dominoes in the eveng.
