3 July 1880 — Windsor Castle
Saturday. 3rd July [1880]. We were summoned to Prayers in the little chapel– Very few people were there. Afterwards we breakfasted with the Dss of Athole in the room we dined in last night. Then Henry & [I] walked out to see the Albert Memorial Chapel wh is a wonderfully perfect thing. Henry wished to see it finished as he had formerly had the charge of the work there. There was morng service going on at St George’s so I went in. Mirca Jones of the boys sang beautifully. It poured hard while I was there but it cleared afterwards & Henry & I walked a little on the terrace. We left by the 12.45 train & went to Aldermaston having to change at Reading. We got there at 3 glad of some lunch then the Squire took us to the pond to fish & we caught a lot of gold [illegible word]. Sir Wm & Lady Gregory & Mr Burton came by on afternoon train & joined us there. Later Ld Somers arrived—2 Miss Scobells were staying in the house—& Arthur Burr came also– Sir Wm Gregory took me to dinner & I sat between him & Ld Somers– We played dominos in the eveng. Ld Somers & I beat Henry & Sir Wm.
