7 April 1884 — 3 Savile Row
Monday. 7th April [1884]. At 10.30 I walked off to Langham House to fetch Mamma’s maid Moody to go to order the mourning dresses for Mamma & the servants. We went first to see Lady Somers to ask her what she recommended me to get for her & then we went on to Harvey & Nichols & spent all the morning there arranging for a dress covered with crèpe & a mantle & a bonnet. We had just time to go to a shop in Princes St Hanover Sqr to order a widow’s cap & then I hurried home to Savile Row to lunch. I found Maria there who had come up to shop & after lunch she went off to the station & dropped me at Westr as I had promised to go to the Speaker’s Court to pay Lady May a farewell visit. I thence returned to Langham House & after remaining a short time I went to leave a card for Arthur at the M. D’antas at 12 Gloucester Place & then went home very tired. Monty returned to town today on purpose to see Mamma & he dined with Blanche. Connie & Charlie dined with us.
