13 April 1885 — Inwood, Henstridge, Somerset
Monday. 13th [April 1885]. Henry & Ivor went off to Canford by a 9 o’cl train. I & Cornelia breakfasted at 9.30 & drove to Canford starting after 12 & taking little Lionel & Rosie with us the youngest children. We got to Canford abt 1.30 & at once had luncheon. We found Biraghi & Luigi there & the staircase in course of being temporarily being put up to see the effect & all the afternoon we spent over it until 5 when we had tea & then Cornelia, Ivor & the children returned by train to Bournemouth leaving Henry & me to remain the night at Canford. When the others were gone I went out for a walk down by the river in search of violets but owing to the cold weather there were very few out. I also went to places in the garden where I remembered they used to grow when I was a child & there sure eno’ I found them still. I did not go in till nearly 8 when we dined. We slept in Cornelias room—very smart & large– It used to be my room when I was a girl tho’ it was then much smaller & very plain.
