11 May 1885 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 11th May [1885]. Got up at 7 & had tea with Henry but when I looked in the glass found I was very red & covered with a rash—so I went to bed again & sent for Dr Cini who when he came pronounced that I had the measles & so there I was in bed & remained there till next Sunday. On Wednesday Aunt Mary (Lady Huntly) arrived to stay with us & on the next day Lord Lytton turned up so that we had the house full of visitors & I was unable to entertain them. Blanche Clark came sometimes to see me—but At Mary would not come on acct of the danger she imagined there was in carrying the infection home to her grandchildren.
