27 April 1886 — Inwood, Henstridge, Somerset
Tuesday. 27th April [1886]. Dr Wiblin left & so did Luff. Maria & I sat & read & worked in the boudoir with open window & streaming sunshine. It was warm & pleasant. Theo & Merthyr hunted. We had a great desire to drive out & as we had not asked Theo for the carriage did not know whether we might order it. I went to ask Lady Westr but she referred me to the servants, so I took the old footman Benjamin into our confidence & he said he would go to the stables & find out. He returned saying the carriage would be ready at 3. Henry, Richard, the twins & I therefore took a drive round by Fifehead & enjoyed the spring day very much altho’ the trees are still very backward & not in leaf. When Theo came in from hunting we were not found to have committed any great sin.
