23 December 1886 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 23rd [December 1886]. It was a lovely day so I ordered the gondola after breakfast & took Edgar out to show him the town. We went up the Grand Canal, round the Fondamenta Nuove by S. Giov: e Paolo—under the bridge of sighs to the Piazza & then home to luncheon. After lunch Henry & I accompanied Edgar to the P&O & saw him off on board the “Tangare” on his return journey to New Caledonia. Mr Malcolm & Emily were also there & he found some acquaintance going on the same ship. I went from there to pay Mme Hurtado a visit & then home to tea. Patience in evening.
