2 September 1887 — Garry Hill, Bagenalstown, County Carlow
Friday. 2nd September [1887]. Blanche was all right & took Henry out for a drive in the morning. After lunch I walked with Fraulein & the children & went to see some of the girls who work lace. Found their cottages very neat & nice & quite a different state of things from Galway. The cottages clean & neat & the people friendly & pleasant. The girls mostly working with needle or bobbin. After tea the young Beresford men came up & helped to destroy wasps nests by means of bengal lights stuck into the holes. We got several.
