10 October 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 10th [October 1888]. We had got all our things packed ready to start at 11 for Longarone when we got a telegram from Malchie saying that the weather was so bad up there that he advised us not to come. Henry went off to Hotel Europa to call on Mr Ruskin who has lately come for a few days to Venice. Settled to have a dinner & evening party on Friday so I wrote the invitations. In the afternoon Henry took the girls to the Lido. Edith Bronson came to call & she & I took a walk together as far as the Piazza & I left her at her home & walked home alone. Mrs Burr came to tea with her friend Miss Broadwood. Mr Jameson & Signor Trombini came also. We dined at 7 & went to the Goldoni to see Zago act in a piece called “Il matrimonio de Ludro”– Very well acted & most amusing.
