17 November 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 17th November [1888]. Nela painted, I worked & Ola read aloud to us. In the afternoon Henry, Nela & I went to the Eden garden thence to the Piazza. We went into St Marks & fetched Miss de Bunsen & all walked as far as the Rialto together where we found the gondola & came home to tea. It was funny to find quite a crowd of artists painting in St Marks & all in the same place. As they are not allowed to paint before 1 o’cl they find the light only right in one place & so they congregate. The Listers dined with us & Lady Lister played to us. She is fine pianist & it was a great pleasure to hear her.
