23 July 1890 — Motcombe House, nr. Shaftesbury, Dorset
Wednesday. 23rd [July 1890]. Breakfasted downstairs at 9.30. Left Motcombe at 10.30. We were accompanied by Theo & Revd Mr Smith the clergyman. Merthyr had gone over to Inwood & met us in the Salisbury train. He & Mr Smith & Theo left us at Andover where they were to spend the day. Henry & I went on to town & reached home at 3. Put up my flowers, rested & had tea at 4. Sir Alfred Trevelyan called, also Lady Reay & later Blanche & Nela Du Cane who said the plan for all their family to spend the summer at Lucerne was thrown over as Richard disliked it. Henry dined with Sir H. Thompson. I with the Du Canes.
