2 March 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 2nd March [1891]. Breakfast at 9. Gave out linen & stores. The usual Monday morning work. Then resumed Nela’s portrait & worked at it till 12. Practised guitar & mandola duetts with Ola—dined at 1– Henry went to see the Duke of Genoa at 2. He took Ola, Nela, the maid Rosa in gondola & they went by steamer to the Lido– Henry returned for me—& at 3.30 we went out together, landed at the Piazza went to Ongania’s & invested largely in cookery book French & Italian. The band was playing. Met Ct Brandolin walking with his pretty daughter & we talked again of dear Morelli. He said that he had worked till the last of the 3rd vol of his book saying he wished to finish it “before he died”– We met the girls at the Lido steamer landing at 4.30 & brought them home to tea. Hilda & Mr Montalba came to tea—& we had a pleasant chat. Read aloud to Henry. Dined at 7.30. Henry & Ola went to the Austrian quartette concert at the B. Marcello rooms. Nela to bed with a headache & I wrote letters till 11 when Henry & Ola came home. We had a letter today from Ivor saying he & Cornelia wd come here to pay us a visit on Saty next. This will be their first visit to us here.
