13 January 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Wednesday. 13th [January 1892]. Remained in bed all morning & got [up] only abt 3 o’clock. Had tea in the studio. Henry went out with Ola– The Italian papers tell us that the Duke of Clarence is ill with influenza at Sandringham—also many others are laid up & others dead—as Col. George Villiers Lord Clarendon’s brother a strong middle aged man whom I had known since I was a girl. Cardinal Manning & Simeoni also are ill. The Belmondos dined with us & we had our musical evening. Very few people came to it—it was a very bad night raining & blowing. | |
