25 August 1892 — Branksome Dene, Poole, Dorset
Thursday. 25th August [1892]. Maria & I drove in to Poole in the morng to take Mrs Basin of the Branksome Dene lodge to the hospital she being apparently very ill. The husband accompanied us on the box seat of the carriage. Mrs B was most mournful & said tragically she “was only going there to die” but she got thro’ the journey of ½ hour well—if not cheerfully. The matron put her at once to bed & we left her recounting her ailments to all who wd hear. I feel persuaded she is mostly hysterical. After lunch I drove out with Mama.
