13 March 1893 — Florence
Monday. 13th March [1893]. I packed directly after breakfast & then Lina, Mr Ross & I went for a walk in the Vincigliata woods where there are myrtle bushes, cypress, olives &c & I also went round Mr Ross’ orchid houses & he gave me different begonia leaves to strike plants with. We lunched at 12.30 & started off directly after to the station at Florence & took the 2.15 train for Stanghella. As far as Bologna we travelled in a carriage with 3 others but at Bologna we got a riservato & I made my tea & let the little parrot Bibi-Lina out of her box & she sat happily on the luggage rack. We reached Stanghella at 8.15 & found the Countess Pisani & Ola & D. Antonio well. The countess went to bed directly after & Ola gave us our supper after wh we went at once to bed.
