9 October 1895 — Inwood, Henstridge, Somerset
Wednesday. 9th [October 1895]. Lady Gregory left for town by 9.30 train. I had settled to go by 11.30 to Branksome Dene—but the morning’s post brought me a letter from Bertha the cook to say I was wanted at Savile Row as the work was at a standstill. I telegraphed to Maria not to expect me & I came up to town by 11.50 with Mr Gould & Miss Grey & went straight to Savile Row abt 2. Finding none of my servants there I went on to 17 Cav Sqr deposited my luggage & walked back to Savile Row where I found Nelly Alderson & Lady Gregory & my servants. I spent a long time there looking into things—then went to 40 Half Moon St for tea at 5 & rested & then went to dine with Augusta Gregory at Q. Anne’s Mansions—returned to sleep at 17 Cav Sqr. I had a comfortable bedroom but the house looks dull & dreary. My servants left Q. Anne St today & slept here.
