19 July 1896 — Villa Mier, Belluno | |
Sunday. 19th [July 1896]. Read aloud to each other in morng. At 2 Sophy read the church service to me & the servants. Roberts went to meet the 3.40 train by which Aimée Princess Cariati arrived from Venice to stay with us. We had tea at 4 & then Sophy went to rest & I took Aimée for a walk to show her the country & we wandered on & on till we went to Salce & called upon the Edens in their fine villa there. They received us with open arms & we stayed with them about an hour & set off back to Mier abt 7.30. We walked so fast that we got home at 8 & tho’ a little late for dinner & very hot we enjoyed it. After dinner Sophy began to read to us Life of Arabella Stuart by Miss Bradley. | |
