3 December 1896 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 3rd [December 1896]. Kate & I breakfasted in bed—& she slept in my bed. Augustus Alderson, Maria & her girl Ruth lunched with us. I had to leave in the middle of lunch to go to Dr Chamberlain to get my teeth finished. Luckily I had not to go to the Sale as Blanche sent word she wd be back in time. I was at the dentist more than an hour & he finished the “coronation” of 2 teeth. Kate having gone out driving with Maria I went on my own account after the dentist to call on Lady Poynter & to congratulate her on her husband’s being P.R.A. & knighted. While there I was taken by one of my tiresome crying fits and had to beg her to give me a glass of water. Lord Leighton’s sister Mrs Matthews came in soon after & I left her & went on to Lady Lindsay’s. She had a small library tea party & I there met, Mrs Arthur Lucas, Susan Lady Malmesbury, Mr Locker Lampson & Mrs Henniker Lecky & Mrs Green– It is the first time I had been in anything like society since /94. I had to hurry away however as Kate & I had invited Mrs Borwick to tea & there she was when I got home soon after 5.
