25 December 1896 — Inwood, Henstridge, Somerset
Friday. 25th [December 1896]. Christmas Day. Splendid weather. Augusta Guest & I walked to Henstridge church to morning service & as I stayed to the 2nd service I walked home alone– I took a turn in the garden again in the afternoon. We had some hot punch in the evening before going to bed—& I saw Merthyr drink it for the 1st time I had seen him take a stimulant for these last 20 years. The Drs tell him he ought to do so.
