27 January 1897 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 27th [January 1897]. Vere Ponsonby came to luncheon also Lady Gregory & her son Robert. We expected Reggie Alderson but he did not come– All these boys are on the way back to their schools the holidays being over. I drove out with Eda at 3. Went to call on Lady De Gex a long way off Branham Gardens. She was at home & received us in splendid attire– Her house was very smart—& gives signs of her being very rich– I do not admire the taste of it– It was a bitter afternoon—freezing—snowing, blowing so we did not stay out long—tho’ it cleared later. We walked home from Mount St stopping to pay a visit to Mrs Borwick who was at home & received us kindly. Nelly dined.
