11 February 1897 — 3 Savile Row | |
Thursday. 11th [February 1897]. After much deliberation I determined to speak to Nellie & tell her I do not like her receiving men in the studio. She acquiesced at once. Painted in morning. Had a visit from Mrs Godfrey Clark about the curtains being made for her at Milan. At 12 Nellie & I went off to see Mr Butler at 3 Connaught Place & he showed us some of his old embroideries & pictures. Sir Francis Palgrave came to lunch with Nellie & me. He was very talkative & agreeable—but to me there is something unpleasant in his unkind view of people & things—a kind of bitterness & hardness. Nelly & I dined with Blanche & Edward & the girls played & sang in eveng. | |
