6 May 1897 — Bessborough, Fiddown, County Kilkenny
Thursday. 6th [May 1897]. Got up at 5.30. Blanche came in her dressg gown & had tea with me– I went to the children’s rooms to kiss them & say goodbye & left Bessborough at 7.30 to leave Fiddown at 7.4. I had to change carriages at Limerick after wh I warmed some coffee & shared it with a lady who travelled all the way with me. I reached Gort at 12.30 & was met by Lady Gregory’s carriage & got to Coole Park about 1. After lunch being very tired she made me rest on the divan. I then dropped off to sleep & was rested by tea time when Augusta came in with her brother Mr Persse who had come to see her. I did not go out again & went early to bed after 8 oclock dinner. I had a very sad feeling at coming back to this house. When I was here 10 years ago Augusta & I had our husbands with us—& it seemed strange & lonely without either.
