30 October 1897 — Villa Pisani, Vescovana
Saturday. 30th [October 1897]. Breakfasted at 11.30 & taking leave of Countess Pisani went to Stanghella & took the 1.15 train a most tiresome & slow one which only got us there at 5.15. Found both the footman & kitchenmaid complaining of headache & on taking their temperatures found they had a little fever & I suppose they have got a touch of influenza. Also the English papers announce the death of Princess Mary of Cambridge Duchess of Teck—who was a great favorite in England for her kindness & cordial manners & gracious ways notwithstanding that she was immensely stout.
