20 May 1898 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 20th [May 1898]. When I went down at 10 I found Arthur had just been wheeled into the drawing room & was having his breakfast. He had had a pretty fair night & slept well after 2 o’cl. His mind was not so clear today & he slept a good deal. We left him alone a good deal that he might keep very quiet. Merthyr came to see him in the morning & Theo sat with me the while. Nellie & I went up to him as usual after lunch—she had her cigarette & I my coffee—& he then went to sleep again so we left him. It was a wretched wet gloomy day but we felt we must go out. Mildred came to ask after her father– Blanche & Constance also came—neither of them stayed long & we went out & returned at 4. Nellie coming in before me. Mr Bond came at 5 & had tea with Arthur & then gave him his bath. Nellie dined out. I dined alone & then wrote letters. Arthur remained in his bedroom after his bath. He was very wandering. I said good night to him before I went to dinner.
