20 November 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 20th November [1899]. I wrote a good many letters. One to the Empress to give her my best wishes for tomorrow & to thank her for her unvaried kindness to me. Prepared my typer for work. “Moses of the Tower” came to see me to say he has some fine brass candlesticks for wh I am in search for the English Church. After lunch I went to the Eden’s garden & found Carry there alone & walked up & down with her. She picked me some chrysanthemums the last of the season & when Mr Eden joined us he picked me a good handful of roses. I went home by 5 & had tea in the studio. Dined at 8 & then my usual Monday reception. The Hultons, Mrs Curtis & Miss Lee an American friend, the Belmondos, Le Malliers, Trombini, & out Sindaco came & the Christies & later Mr Woods. He showed me a letter the Church building committee has written to H.M. thanking her for the bell but he made no comment to me.
