18 February 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Sunday. 18th February [1900]. Went with Kate to the 10 o’cl service at the German Chap. Roy. & then she went to the 12 o’cl service at the St James Chap. Royal. I came home & Connie came to lunch & remained some time talking afterwards. Mr Herbert Thompson paid us a visit. At 5 I went to tea with Adeline Bedford to report progress of M.C.H. She agreed to come on to the next Committee meeting & at once wrote cablegrams to Dr Treves & to Mr Boulby of the Portland Hospital ship to ask them to look about for patients for us– Mrs Benson, the Archbishops widow was with Adeline staying for a few days. It came over me as we sat talking—how we three had all lost our husbands with a few months of each other—& how that sorrow was drawing us all together. I went home abt 6 & found Cecil Alderson & his boy Gus. Cecil is only in town for 2 nights having come as one of the Queen’s Chaplains to preach at the Chapel Royal St James this morning.
