14 April 1900 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Saturday. 14th [April 1900]. Drove with Cornelia in morning to the heath to see Fanny Arnold (my housemaid) who is at home helping to nurse her brother who is very ill with pneumonia. She was sent for on acct of her brother & then her father was taken ill & died in a few days & they have not dared to let the son know of it. The Dr says it might kill him. Afternoon Corrie & Lionel came & sat in my room & we all read aloud to each other in turns from a French book on the Huguenot wars in the time of Catherine de Medicis.
