16 May 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 16th [May 1900]. Coloured a print for the Garry Hill girls to copy in embroidery. The French dressmaker came to see the rooms Nellie thinks of taking for her shop & did not approve of them. Aimée out to lunch, Nellie at home. At 2.30 I went off to Bethlem Hos: to see Miss Lyons. I found her worse & moved into the excited ward—sitting out in the garden yard. She would not speak to me. Dr Hyslop is unwell & on the sofa with a rheumatic attack. I saw him for a few minutes & walked home from Bethlem via Westr Bridge & Parliament Street. Mrs Edward Hope came to tea & also Mr Somerset Beaumont. Dined 7.45 & I took Aimée to the Avenue Theatre to see “A Messenger from Mars” an amusing piece—& moral to boot for it is all against selfishness of wh a messenger from Mars comes down to cure a selfish man. The play has the merit of not being dull as good things have the reputation of being.
